E-care@home is very proud to announce that Daniel Karlsson from SICS East and Linköping University, has received the “IHTSDO Award for Excellence” from the International Health Terminology Standards Development Organisation (IHTSDO). The award is given to one person per year, and Daniel was rewarded for his dedication as an advisor and doer when it comes to bringing in research results and knowledge to IHTSDO.
IHTSDO is an association of 30 member states that are advanced in eHealth. IHTSDO’s mission is to use research results and experience to create products that facilitate information management in healthcare. Their major product is the combined ontology and terminology SNOMED CT in which concepts are defined in ways that both humans and computers can understand. SNOMED CT is therefore a fundamental component to get better automated information management in healthcare to work.
Daniel has mainly contributed in various aspects of the content of SNOMED CT. Daniel was elected award winner by IHTSDO’s General Assembly, where Sweden is represented by Henrik Moberg in his role as Deputy Director with special responsibility for eHealth at the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs.
Daniel received his award during the IHTSDO’s “Awards Ceremony Dinner” in Wellington, New Zealand on October 26th 2016 . The award ceremony marked the end of one of the two yearly IHTSDO business meetings and tomorrow the SNOMED CT Expo opens.
